The most and least expensive cars to maintain

YourMechanic provides data on their own research about different car models maintenance cost, based on their big dataset of cars serviced.

The report shows which major brands cost the most to maintain over the first 10 years of a car’s life. YourMechanic grouped all years of all models by brand and computed their average cost by brand.

Very interesting figure raised if we look at the vehicle costs change with years. On the cahrt below is the median annual cost of maintenance across all brands.

As it was expected the maintenance costs increase as the car ages. A stable, consistent increase of $150 per year in costs exists for years 1 through 10. After that, there is a distinct jump between 11 and 12 years of age. After age 13, costs plateau around $2,000 per year.

The leaders are Toyota Prius and Kia Soul, folowed by the Toyota Carmy. So Toyota brand dominates as the brand with the owest maintenance cost.
